After five years of legal possession and no legal stores, Virginia is finally getting a regulated retail market. Here is what you need to know.
The key dates
- February 1, 2027: the Cannabis Control Authority starts accepting retail license applications.
- July 1, 2027: licensed adult-use sales can begin for adults 21+.
What you'll be able to buy
Flower, pre-rolls, vapes, concentrates and edibles, all lab-tested and tracked from seed to sale. Edibles will be capped at 10 mg THC per serving and 100 mg per package.
Delivery is coming too
Licensed retailers can sell through licensed delivery operators, with ID checked at the door.
Taxes
Expect a 6% state cannabis tax at launch, plus local taxes of 1% to 3.5% in many localities, plus sales tax.
