How to read a cannabis label

THC vs. THCA, serving sizes, batch numbers and test dates, decoded.

Every legal cannabis product comes with a label packed with information. Here is what matters.

Total THC and CBD

Flower is often labeled with THCA and total THC. Total THC estimates how much THC will be available after heating.

Serving size

Edibles list THC per serving and per package. In Virginia's adult-use market, servings are capped at 10 mg THC and packages at 100 mg.

Batch and test date

The batch or lot number ties the product to its lab test. Fresher is generally better for flower.

Warnings

Required warnings cover age limits, impairment and keeping products away from children.
